How to use SEO Rank Tracker

Updated August 5, 2026

Rank Tracker measures where a client brand appears in search results for the keywords you choose. The dashboard Rank Score only updates after a rank check has created ranking history for that brand.

  1. Select the brand you want to measure.
  2. Add keywords, one per line. Use search phrases customers would type, such as a service, product, city, or problem.
  3. Click Run Check. Wait for the progress bar to reach 100%.
  4. Review Avg Position, Top 3, Last Checked, the trend graph, and the keyword table.

Rank checks now store a multi-engine result set in the rank history. The primary dashboard score remains based on the comparable Google organic position, while raw history also records Google Maps, Bing organic, Yahoo organic, and Apple Maps fallback/projection data when live data is unavailable.

What Average Position means

Average Position is the average search ranking across all tracked keywords for the selected brand. Lower is better. Position 1 means the brand is the first result. An average position of 54.7 means the brand is averaging around result position 55 across the checked keywords.

This helps brands understand whether they are visible for the phrases customers are searching. A high average position means the brand may need stronger pages, better content, more focused keywords, local SEO work, or technical SEO improvements.

What Top 3 means

Top 3 is the number of tracked keywords where the brand ranks in positions 1, 2, or 3. These are the top organic positions for a keyword and usually receive more attention and clicks than lower results.

Ranking in the Top 3 helps a brand win more search visibility, more qualified traffic, stronger trust, and more opportunities for leads or sales.

How to improve ranking positions

  • Track keywords that match real services, products, cities, and customer problems.
  • Create or improve pages that directly answer the search intent for each keyword.
  • Add clear headings, helpful content, internal links, schema, and strong calls to action.
  • Improve technical SEO issues found in SEO Audit, including page speed, crawlability, and metadata.
  • Build authority with useful content, citations, local profiles, reviews, and relevant backlinks.
  • Run checks regularly and compare movement over time instead of judging one single check.

If the dashboard still shows 0, first confirm the correct brand is selected and that the brand has at least one completed rank check. A keyword that is not found in the tracked search range counts as position 101, which lowers the score.
